Why is PGWP eligibility with AIP significant for students?
It is not hidden from anyone that most Indian students aspire to study in Canada not only to pursue higher education but also to find work and PR opportunities. But this year, the students' aspiration had remained on the ventilator due to coronavirus until IRCC introduced a new remedy, announcing that the time spent studying online by the international students will count towards Post Graduation Work Permit.
Earlier it was said that PSWP would be given to students who start online study after getting a study permit. But now the Canadian government has provided much-needed relief and entitled students to receive PGWP benefits even if they study online, just with an Approval-In-Principle before receiving their study permit.
The announcement is crucial for prospective students as it allows them to work in Canada for up to 3 years after completing their courses. The work experience can be used to gain permanent residency through the Express Entry System.
Express Entry System allows foreigners, including international students with Canadian work experience, to submit their applications for permanent residency. There are three programs under the express entry, namely, Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trader Program, and Canadian Experience Class. International students can apply under any of these classes.
In the Express Entry system, points are awarded to the candidates, which depend on factors like age, work experience, education, and language ability. After that, depending on the outcome of the comprehensive ranking system (CRS), candidates are issued an invitation letter (ITA).
Canadian Experience Class program is one of the most popular ways to obtain PR. to apply under it, along with other factors, at least one year of skilled work experience in Canada is required, which students can attain using PGWP. Likewise, for Federal Skilled Worker Program At least 1-year continuous skilled work experience although which may be in Canada or elsewhere, is required.
Like Express entry, which is run by the federal government, Canadian provinces also run provincial nominee programs to pick talent, although only the federal government of Canada may issue PR. In these programs, too, post-graduation work experience may benefit the students.
By making international students eligible for post-graduation work with just AIP, which is before completing the entire study visa process, the Canadian government has once again manifested its commitment towards offering study, work and settle opportunities for international students. Students can now apply for AIPs without worries and navigate through these challenging times for a bright future in Canada.
